Marathon Jam: More than 20 Years of Healing Through Music
CHAPEL HILL, NC — What began as a 2003 gathering of musicians on John Santa’s carport in Chapel Hill, has grown into an extraordinary tradition of music, fellowship, and service. Although John has passed on, his vision continues.
Over the years, Marathon Jam has expanded beyond North Carolina, with events reaching across the United States and overseas. The non-profit organization has raised more than $600,000 in support of its charitable mission to support veterans, first responders, and their families.
Beneficiaries include: the Fisher Houses at Fort Bragg and Camp Lejeune - providing free accommodations for military families during medical treatment; Camp Corral’s summer camp programs and experiences help to transform the lives of children of wounded, ill, and fallen military heroes; The North Carolina First Responder Peer Support Team - provides a confidential, safe, and non-judgmental environment for fire, law enforcement, and EMS personnel, to engage in healing; along with The Veterans Restoration Quarters of Asheville, whose mission addresses every area of restoration in the life of a Veteran experiencing homelessness.
The jam brings together acoustic musicians for 12 hours of continuous music, to benefit injured veterans, first responders, and their families.
Beyond fundraising, Marathon Jam volunteers regularly bring live music to veterans in hospitals and care facilities.
